Our Story

Stewards of the source, since 1953.

Seventy years of quietly doing one thing exceptionally well: bringing clean, dependable water to the homes of Bermuda Dunes and La Quinta.

Agency Spotlight

The story of Myoma Dunes Mutual Water Company.

Myoma Dunes Mutual Water Company (MDMWC) is a mutual water company that has provided reliable drinking water service to approximately 2,500 residential and commercial connections in Bermuda Dunes (formerly known as Myoma Dunes) since 1953 and to portions of La Quinta since 2005. The system is supplied by four company-owned groundwater wells located within the service area.

Myoma was established by local real estate agent and developer Ernie Dunlevie, a driving force behind the development of the Bermuda Dunes Country Club, Bermuda Dunes Airport, and Bermuda Dunes Racquet Club. Recognizing the growing community's need for a dependable water supply, Ernie acquired Myoma Dunes Mutual Water Company and personally oversaw its operations for more than 50 years, remaining actively involved well into his 90s.

As the community has grown, so has the company's infrastructure. MDMWC continues to invest in system improvements and modernization to provide customers with a safe, reliable, and high-quality drinking water supply. The company is equally committed to responsible water conservation and the sustainable management of local water resources to help ensure a dependable supply for future generations.

Despite its growth, Myoma has remained true to its cooperative roots. The company is owned by property owners (shareholders) of the community it serves and governed by an elected Board of Directors dedicated to serving the best interests of the community.

The Source

Four wells, one ancient aquifer.

Our water comes from four company-owned wells that tap the Lower Whitewater River sub-basin of the Coachella Valley aquifer — a deep, naturally filtered groundwater reserve beneath the desert floor.

It is a finite and precious resource, which is why we monitor it closely and why conservation is part of the job, not an afterthought.

What We Stand For

Four commitments that never change.

01

Purity

Water tested against USEPA and California State Water Board standards, with results published openly every year.

02

Stewardship

We treat the aquifer as a shared inheritance — managed conservatively so it serves the next generation as well as this one.

03

Reliability

Four wells and well-maintained infrastructure mean water is there when you turn the tap, every day of the year.

04

Transparency

Quality reports, management plans, announcements, and regulations — public information, kept public.

Governance

A Board elected by shareholders.

MDMWC is governed by a 4-member Board of Directors elected by the Company's shareholders, each serving a 4-year term.

As a mutual water company and non-profit mutual benefit corporation, the Board operates under MDMWC's Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws — setting policy, approving rates and the annual budget, and overseeing the Company's operations on behalf of its shareholders.
